Supermarket expansions under way

Ohakune New World owner-operator Alan Murdie last year made plans for extensions to the store in anticipation of the growth in the Waimarino. Work is now underway on these plans, which include installing a new entrance complete with automatic sliding doors facing Goldfinch Street. This entrance will have a covered bay for trolleys and baskets. The present supermarket offices are to be removed and new ones will be built above the new entranceway, making another 500 square feet of space available in the shop. This extra floor space will be used for fridges to expand the frozen food and chilled meat lines. Mr Murdie said the new freezer will double the existing range of frozen food products. Equal space will be used ■ for a three tier meat fridge which will enable the supermarket to increase its variety of meat and also stock an extensiye range of pet food. A fourth checkout is to be installed before the ski season which will be sweetfree. This checkout may upset our visitors though, as Mr Murdie is contemplating plans to make the lane 'locals only'! If not then it will be an express lane. The extensions are expected to be completed next month at an estimated costof $119,500.
