Hui held at Raetihi for certificates

A hui was held at tne Raetihi Marae on 1-3 May 1987 for Tutors who attended courses run by the Whanganui Regional Employment Board to receive their certificates. The Employment Board is one of three Maori training providers who were able to train tutors away from

institutions such at community colleges and polytechnics. The Raetihi whanau took the initiative and decided to gather tutors from within the Whanganui area to discuss what is happening with the Maori Access programme and to make firm decisions about the ending of the T.A.P. schemes.

Representation from the employment board was made by the chairman George Turia and also MATLO officer, Tari Turia. Tari's job is to keep the Maori people informed with policies brought about by the introduction of Access. All in all the hui was a great success. Presentation of certificates was made by Kaumatua Jack Gray.
