who is a neurosurgeon at Wellington Hospital and a trustee for the Westpac Helicopter. The meeting is planned for later in May to gain advice on the type of equipment suitable for the Waimarino helicopter. Also planned for June are some training sessions with ski patrollers and DoC staff with the ski season in mind. Winstone Afforestation now have a trained rescue squad, all with first aid certificates including CPR training and abseiling experience. The trust hopes to have rescue squads trained especially for the various areas of the Waimarino. That means for example DoC staff and ski patrollers would handle mountain rescues and Winstone Afforestation staff and forestry staff would handle plantation areas. Mr Tapp stressed that the purpose of the Waimarino Rescue Trust is to enable the rescue helicopter to airlift patients from difficult istuations. They will not normally be involved in searching for missing persons.
