Grabbing groceries
One Waiouru lady found out that it pays to be personable when she won the My Fair Lady competition at this year's Desert Fair, with the prize being a 2-minute grocery grab sponsored by AGI, Waiouru. Maggie Carter, a stewardess in the officers' mess at Army Training Group, took part in a play-off with three other competitors, all of whom told jokes, answered questions and displayed their talents to win the title of Waimarino's My Fair Lady. Miss Carter, with the
back-up of 4-Composite Squadron, also managed to raise $1 180 through various raffles and donations, to go towards child safety and youth development programmes in Waiouru. Miss Carter's frantic grocery grab resulted in $252.39 goods going into her two laden trolleys. AGI's manager Mr Robert Morris said he anticipated around $500 goods would be gathered and seemed pleasantly surprised by the total! Miss Carter said she plans to donate most of the groceries back to 4-Composite Squadron for various future raffles.
