Raetihi beaten after O.K. recovery
Ohakune- Karioi beat Raetihi 32-13 on Saturday after trailing 7-4 to Raetihi at the end of the first half. Raetihi were well fired up in the first part of the game holding off Ohakune-Karioi and scoring a try (Geoff Fahey) and a penalty goal (Thomas Waara). Bruce Maher scored a try for Ohakune-Karioi near the end of the first half to begin their recovery. Raetihi's lack of fitness
and experience showed in the second half allowing Richard Mathews, Charles Mareikura, Whetu Mareikura, Kellick Harding, and Gerard Hipango to score tries. Kellick Harding, Ray Brown and Whetu Mareikura converted tries. Gavin Johnson scored a try for Raetihi in the second half which was converted by Thomas Waara. Ohakune-Karioi player Kevin Hill was ordered off in the first half and Bruce Cranston was sin-binned.
In the Utiku Old BoysWaiotiru game at Taihape on Sunday Utiku won 12-0. Utiku had full control in the game, spending much time in Waiouru 's half. No points were scored in the first half. Utiku scored their points with three tries in the second half. Barry Thomas, Paul Kavanagh and Ian Pyne
touched down for Utiku. In the other Northern Wanganui game of the weekend Huia beat Taihape Pirates 15-9. Dean Chase, scored a try for Huia, which Paul Hekenui converted. Lee Turnbull kicked a drop goal and two penalty goals. Ken Cribb kicked three penalty goals for Taihape Pirates.
