Success for centre
The Waimarino Resource Centre that recently moved into its new home, the old milk treatment building in Ballance Street, Raetihi, is enjoying the taste of success. The centre 's TAPS programmes have proved very popular with a clerical and reception course and a music course already under way. Still to begin are courses on leathercraft, landscaping, horticulture, dressmaking, tailoring, aerobics, nutrition, calligraphy and art.
The courses are run by various skilled local people — Wendy Davis' 20-week clerical course and the music course run by Moses Chase are attended by up to 40 people. The students have the opportunity to gain first hand experience from various visits made to other areas. An example is a weeklong visit by the clerical group to Carrington Technical Institute in Auckland earlier this year. The students visited local banks, offices and computer centres in Auckland as part of their course. The Resource Centre's success has not come with-
out much hard work and sacrifices, according to organiser Stella Mills. Mrs Mills praised the work of the committee and the 'tremendous support' given by the Justice Department that has gone towards making the scheme viable. "Everyone involved is prepared to make sacrifices, to nurse the project initially and make it work,"she said. Mrs Mills said very high standards are set by tutors who demand that the students give their best and already there are several success stories, to the Centre's credit.
