Fire station fun for Rangataua visitors

Twelve children from the junior class of Rangataua School had the time of their lives during a recent visit to the Fire Station in Ohakune. The children, aged between 5-8 years, were carrying out a study of fire engines and equipment for a school project and were given an escorted trip around the station by volunteer fireman Kevin Munn. Mr Munn, with the help of a hand puppet called Brian, instructed the group on what-to-do in case of fire and explained various parts of equipment and tools. Some of the children wore old-time helmets and jackets while visiting the station. After a demonstration of specialised equipment used by the Fire Brigade in cases of accident or emergency, including breathing apparatus and scoop stretcher, the children climbed onto a 'motor' (fire-engine) for a full inspection.
