After many months of fund-raising, organisation and hard work, the Ruapehu Girls Basketball team has finally taken off to Fiji.
They left on Friday 10 April and will be back home on 22 April. They arrived at Nandi, where they spent two days. After this they planned to spend three days soaking up the sun at Plantation Island. The final week is spent in Suva, where the girls will compete %in the Annual Easter Basketball Tournament. ★ ★ ★ All the 4th form classes were recently involved in science trips which involved a day trip up the mountain. The students looked at things such as craters, lava flows and lakes as they tramped from Mangate-
popo to Ketetahi Springs. It was a very educational trip and all of the students enjoyed it. ★ ★ ★ On Thursday 9 April the senior debating team competed against Wanganui Girls College. The debate was held at Ruapehu College and the topic was 'that the farmer has done more for New Zealand than the politicians The team, comprising of Glen Koorey, Glen Journeaux and Mathew Mowat debated the affirmative side. The Ruapehu team put up a very good debate but unfortu-
nately the Wanganui side proved to be too strong for them and won. ★ ★ ★ A former pupil Dominique Hayward at Ruapehu College 1977-81 has been admitted to the bar, an ambition she had while still attending school here. ★ ★ ★ And finally, the College's musical 'Starblaze' is well under way. Mrs Sue Allomes and Mrs Jane Hudson have taken charge and are doing a good job of producing the play.
