Roaming dogs at risk
Dog owners in the Waimarino are being asked to take more responsibility for their animals to prevent further incidents of sheep worrying. Ohakune police have issued a warning to owners to exercise more control over their pets after recent cases of mauled sheep around Ohakune. Dogs that are seen worrying livestock are liable to be shot on sight. In some cases dogs make up packs and roam around the town. Dogs that may not have actively taken part in the killing still run the risk of being shot if they are part of the pack.
