Film Producer forms new Company
Raetihi born film producer Larry Parr is learning up with colleague, Don Reynolds, to form a new company — Mirage Entertainment Corporation Ltd. The company will be worth about $12.5 million with $3 million coming from Equiticorp Holdings Ltd. The company plans to go public and a prospectus is due out soon. Mirage Entertainment plans to expand the two producers' activities in film production, distrihution and marketing with the use of both foreign and local finance. Larry Parr set up his company 'Mirage' in 1979 after being involved in other people's film projects. Within three years Mirage produced six feature films
— 'Constance', 'Pallet on the Floor', 'Came a hot Friday\ 'Shaker Run\ 'Bridge to Nowhere' and 'Queen City Rocker'. This record makes Larry Parr one of the most prolific film producers in New Zealand. Mirage Entertainment is now producing two films, Illustrious Energy and Starlight Hotel. Another film by Merata Mita called 'Mauri' is in its pre-production stages at present. Further down the line are plans to make a television series based on the film 'Came a hot Friday'. Production of M. K. Joseph's'A Soldier's Tale' should start in France in July. Mr Parr said setting up the company was a way to remove 'the hassles of struggling from one project to the next'.
