Kindergarten successes
Ohakune Kindergarten has had a busy time the last twelve months with lots of fund raising activities helping the committee to achieve its goals for the year. Their goals were to purchase several major pieces of equipment, finance the expenses of running the kindergarten and putting some money in the bank.
Fundraising activities included the Desert Fair, a family fun day, wood raffles, a school gala day, the Guy Fawkes evening, producing a business directory, catering for rugby, a Christmas stall and producing Christmas cards. Some of these events netted the Kindergarten over $ 1 000 each with the business directory netting $2000. Many will remember the Guy Fawkes evening as the most enjoyable event. The equipment bought with the funds raised include a new block unit, water and sandpit toys, books and puzzles and a new radio cassette stereo system. The kindergarten teachers, Vera Donnelly and Sue Kumeroa will no longer have to slow a speeding turntable by putting their fingers on it or have the music drowned by dancing and singing children! With the help of Margaret and Simon Weir the porch and verandah area has been sanded and painted. The porch area has been enclosed with the help of Dave Griffiths to allow it to be used for children's coats. A $250 grant from the Council for Sports and Recreation has been received for the installation of a slide. This installation is still in the planning stages.
