Foyle Street no exit
The Planning Tribunal has upheld the Ohakune Borough Council's decision to close off the Miro Street end of Foyle Street, at Ohakune Junction. The tribunal sat at Wanganui on 26 February to consider objections to the proposal. The following day the tribunal visited Ohakune to inspect the area and invited objectors to attend but none turned up. Judge Turner said that they were satisfied that there was reasonable cause to justify the proposal having considered the plans, council's explanation and the objections. It is desirable that Miro Street be straightened and upgraded as it will be carrying an increased volume of
traffic to and from the skifield with the new subdivisions at the northern end of Miro Street. The tribunal heard that Miro Street cannot be straightened and improved without cutting permanently the link between Miro Street and Foyle Street. It was judged that adequate access by way of Mangawhero Terrace was open to the lands in the vicinity of the road. The objectors discussed whether the junction of the two streets was dangerous and if the junction could be improved without closing it. Judge Turner said the tribunal was "fortified in their conclusion by the fact that only one family of the eight or so living in Foyle Street close to the junction objected to the proposal."
