The Desert Road was closed at around 1.15am Wednesday morning when an articulated truck and trailer unit went out of control and rolled on its side, blocking state highway one just north of the Waihohonu stream bridge. Members of the Waiouru Camp Fire Brigadeattended the accident. Two army trucks were used to unload the goods from the trailer of the truck, owned by the Package Express Company Ltd, an overnight service that operates between Auckland and Wellington for general freight. The driver was the sole occupant of the truck and was unhurt in the accident. ★ ★ ★ Ohakune Police are currently investigating the burglary of two chalets in the Turoa Village and are waiting to hear further from the owners of the residences. ★ ★ ★ Piper's Kings Court in Utahuia Street, Ohakune was broken into and several rooms ransacked sometime last week. A quantity of bedding was stolen in the break-in.
