Red Cross appeal day
This week is 1987 Red Cross week in which the work of international and New Zealand Red Cross is to be widely publicised as well as a house-to-house appeal being held. The Waimarino Branch of Red Cross is made up of a small but extremely dedicated group of people who give freely of their time and talents to be available to help people in need in the area. Among the local activities of Red Cross is the emergency relief welfare work operated by the welfare section, the maintenance of first aid posts on local roads and regular first aid training courses which are available at specific times of the year or on request. The branch is also actively involved in the local Civil Defence organisation and has a major role to play in the welfare section in any disaster. A link with the Heart Foundation means the branch also has responsibility for C.P.R. training for any interested persons or groups. The Appeal Week will end on Saturday 11 April with the annual house-to-house appeal. This is the only source of income for Red Cross and at lease half of the money raised will stay in the Waimarino to be used here. The appeal will be held on Saturday 11 April in Ohakune and possibly earlier in Raetihi. Any offers of help would be appreciated and people prepared to be collectors are asked to contact the Secretary, Shelagh Buck on 58-610 any evening after 4.30pm.
