Runners brave chilly conditions
Three-hundred and ten army personnel and civiliansbraved chilly conditions last week to take part in this year's half marathon run in Waiouru. Competitors ran in three categories; 8km, 16km and a half marathon distance of 21km, beginning at Six Cross Camp near the highest point of the Desert Road and finishing at the Army Garrison. Njnety people ran in the
race including five women. The first runner to cross the line was Gregory Mitchell from Workshops, with the winning time of 1 :9.30 sec. Debbie Norton and Sharon Crack tied for first place as fhe first lady runners home
with a time of 1:37.07 sec. The winners of the team event were 4ATG Workshops. Organiser of this year's event, Sgt. Jack Milford, said he was pleased with the number of people who took
part (some of whom were volunteers while some were 'volunteered'), taking into consideration the unseasonal weather. Competitors ran in the face of driving rain and very cold temperatures, he said.
