New car for Plunket nurse
Waimarino's Plunket Nurse Carole Harford was delighted when she was presented with the keys to a brand new car last week. "It's the first time I'veever had a new car and what's more, 1 didn't have to pay for it," she said. The car is the culmination of four years of fund-raising by the Ohakune and Raetihi Plunket Committees and contributions from local businesses and individuals in the Waimarino. The Plunket Nurse receives a new car every 40.000km, which is around
every four years, because of the demand placed on the vehicle. Mrs Harford 'clocksup' about 650km a month during her rounds of the Waimarino area. Continuous fundraising is necessary to ensure that enough money is on hand for the new car and running costs, travelling costs and also for the upkeep of the Plunket Rooms. Consequently, donations to the Plunket Society are always gratefully received. About 20% of the cost of the car is subsidised by the Government while the rest of the cost is rnet by Plunket and the public.
