Venturers group formed

A Venturers group has recently formed in Waiouru and more members are needed to boost the group's numbers. Venturers are similar to a scout group, with the obvious differences being the inclusion of female as well as male members and the ages of members being 15-19 years. The members virtually run their own group with an adult leader who acts in an advisory capacity and maintains discipline in the ranks. The group has just six

members and is looking at including members from Taihape, Ohakune and Raetihi. A Venturers group operated in Waiouru around three years ago but was forced to fold because of a lack of leaders. Venturers are involved in similar activities to scouts, including hiking, bushlore, camping and fieldwork.
