New Brochure to promote region

Most Waimarino residents know the virtues of our area but people in other parts of the country may not, so a group of people have got together and produced a prornotional brochure for visitors, pointing out all the features of the region. The bfochure is called "Passport To The Ruapehu Region", and covers an area from Taumarunui and Turangi in the north, to Mangaweka apd Atene on the Wanganui River in the south. The most obvious feature of the Passport is the large map included which was compiled and drawn by Dennis Beytagh of Ohakune. The map has all the to\yns and most of the localities pf the region marked, as well as symbols representing the location of various facilities and activities that a visitor may be interested in. There is a large section of the "Passport" devoted to a written description of the region, as well as the many activities available to the visitor. This part of the brochure was compiled by Catherine Dodd of the

Ruapehu Region Information Centre. Johan Sandford from Jason Publishing in Auckland was one of the instigators of the project as well as the designer of the brochure. Johan also sold the advertis--ing space for the brochure. The advertising revenue paid for most of the production and printing costs of the Passport which included a run of 30,000 copies. Johan Sandford said she felt there werea lot of activities in the region apart from skiing that outsiders might not be aware of and the Passport was a way to promote the region. "The emphasis in the Passport has been put on bringing people into the region, summer and winter" she said. The brochure is being distributed throughout the cduntry to travel agents and public relations offices. "We've already received requests for more copies" said Mrs Sandford. She said tfje project has been really well supported by the advertiseY$ included in the brochure.
