Ohakune fires

The Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade had a hectic Sunday morning last weekend with two call outs in the space of VA hours and another later in the morning. The firemen were called from their beds at 12.52am to attend a fire at the Turoa Skifields hostel in Clyde Street, after some bedding caught alight. It took the Brigade about A hour to extinguish the fire with only moderate damage to the room. The alarm was raised again at 2.25am by two members of the Brigade, after it was discovered that the fire had reignited in the ceiling. Firemen were called back to attend to the fire. Moderate damage was caused to the ceiling. The Brigade attended a car fire in the main street outside the Skiers' Inn Dairy at 10.55am. The fire was caused by a faulty fuel line in the car and was being kept under control by bystanders with fire extinguishers when the brigade arrived minutes after the alarm went up. There was only minor damage to the vehicle. In both incidents there was no injury reported.
