Ohakune Ironmen

On Sunday 1st March two Ohakune triathletes travelled to Taumarunui to compete in the Taumarunui Ironman Competition, both finishing well. Out of about 35 competitors Chris Thrupp finished in second place with a time at 2:20:37 only seconds behind first placegetter, with Barry Marnoch finishing in fifth place with a time of 2:25:53.

1 he event was made up of 6 sections and began with a lkm run followed by a ,7km swim down the Ongarue River, a 13.5km cycle to Te Maire Reserve where they then ran a steep 6km bush run, another 13.5km ride back to the river and then the final stage being a 7.5km run. A total distance of 42.2km. Chris and Barry also completed 2 triathlons in Taupo over the summer.
