The Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade and Ohakune Police attended a fatal motor accident that occured at 7.40pm Friday evening. Judith Ann Hogan, 47, of Karioi, was killed when the Hillman Avenger she was a passenger in collided with a parked truck on SH49, 1 km east of Ohakune township. The driver of the vehicle was admitted to Waimarino Hospital where he was treated for shock and minor injuries. * ★ ★ On Monday 16 February, Raetihi Police .arrested a 26 year old Wellington man in Raetihi, on a number of warrants. He was later charged by the Upper Hutt C.I.B. in connection with an incident that occured on 5 January 1987. The man was charged with a $27,000 theft, from an employee of the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club as their takings were being delivered to a nearby bank. ★ ★ ★ Ohakune Police arrested a 25 year old Ohakune man last week on charges of cultivating cannabis and permitting his premises to be used for an offence against the misuse of drugs act. He will be appearing in the Ohakune District Court on 26 February. ★ ★ ★ Raeiihi's volunteer firemen, ambulance officers and police were more than a little peeved when they rushed to assist victims of a car accident and found they had left of their own accord. The services were called out to the accident at 9.15pm on Saturday night after a motorist reported seeing two people trapped in an overturned car 18km south of Raetihi on the Parapara Scenic Highway. The vehicle had been heading toward Wanganui when it struck a bank on the left hand side of the road. Upon arrival the occupants were nowhere to be seen and firemen aided by
members of the public began a fruitless search in the dark, fearing that they had had wandered off in shock. The search ended after Wanganui police received a phone call from the vehicle 's driver who called from the hotel at Upokongaro to say , that all were well. ★ ★ ★ On Monday 16 February at 3.20pm two cars collided head-on 32km south of Raetihi on the Parapara highway. The driver of one vehicle was admitted to Waimarino hospital with a cut on the head. Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade, ambulance and Raetihi Police attended the accident. ★ ★ ★ Sometime on Saturday night 21 February a Holden car was taken from outside the Raetihi RFC rooms. Te Kuiti Police recovered the car on Sunday and apprehended two 13 year old runaways from a Napier Social Welfare institute. ★ ★ ★ Also on Saturday night a car was broken into outside the Raetihi RFC rooms and a .22 rifle was stolen. ★ ★ ★ Over last weekend a toolshed at the Waimarino County Council yard on Parapara Road in Raetihi was broken into and two pairs of overalls stolen. The overalls are green with orange stripes around the waist and down sleeves. ★ ★ ★ A 28 year old Ohakune man was arrested last week by Ohakune Police on a charge of possession of cannabis. He will be appearing in the Ohakune District Court on 26 February. ★ ★ ★ Traffic Officer lan Harrison attended two accidents over the weekend, both incidents were casualty free. Two vehicles collided while on their way to the Jubilee parade in Ohakune, at 10.20am on Saturday morning. The vehicles were travelling towards Ohakune along Tohunga Road when a car overtaking collided with another pulling out of a driveway. The driver of a Datsun was lucky to escape injury when the vehicle left the road near the intersection of Mangiteitei and Rangataua Roads at around 2am on Sunday morning. ★ ★ ★ Waimarino residents and motorists are asked to be on the lookout for a container of tablets lost by a person hitch-hiking along SH49 between Ruapehu Road and Mangiteitei Road last week. The gentleman realised his loss when he reached Taihape and immediately notified local Police. Labelled 'Tricylet' and 'Doxepin', there are over 100 tablets in a pill bottle inside a white paper chemist bag on which is written 'Ashleigh Court Pharmacy, Wellington.' Police warn that the medication would be dangerous in the hands of children and anyone finding the tablets are asked to hand them in to the Ohakune Police Station immediately.
