Films old & new

More than 240 people attended the special screening of 'Crocodile Dundee' at the Kings Theatre in Ohakune last Monday evening and later attended the 'wine and cheese' supper in the former FCOS building. In addition to the main feature film, patrons also had an opportunity to view a film made by the National

Film Unit in Ohakune in 1955. Many familiar local — but younger — faces were identified in this 32-year-old black-and-white film which feature such activities as market gardening, the building of the swimming baths and the Ohakune Primary School's Savings Bank successes. In keeping with the spirit of the occasion and the

period it represented, Bruce and Lesley Thompson screened an early version of the National Anthem (God Save the King) accompanied by a photograph of a very young King George VI to which the entire audience responded by standing and applauding. Proceeds from this $10 per head film-and-supper function went towards the local PTA who arranged and organised the evening.
