Navy Gives to Waiouru Hall Fund
The Central Welfare Fund of the Royal New Zealand Navy has donated $1,000 towards the Waiouru School Hall Fund. The presentation was made by HMNZS Irirangi on behalf of the trustees of the Central Fund to the Headmaster of Waiouru Primary School Mr Tauri Morgan. The presentation was made in conjunction with a concert for school children at Waiouru by the RNZN Band. A representative of Irirangi said that the Navy Central Welfare Fund was approached by Irirangi to give financial support to the School Hall in view of the continuing Naval presence in the community and their long established tradition of participating in community activities. Last year the trustees had assisted the Waiouru Skating Rink project in a similar fashion. Waiouru Primary School is intending to use a vacant Navy building, one of the early Radio Receiver Buildings, as the basis of its future School Hall. The building will have to be moved from its present site on Irirangi Aerial Farm to the School for refurbishing as an Assembly Hall.
