Lucky beats the odds
'Lucky' is one dog that has overcome the odds and survived after being found at the Waiouru Dump with a partially slit throat nearly four months ago. The terrier-cross which is thought to be between 6-12 months old was found by a worker at the dump who immediately contacted the SPCA. SPCA president in Waiouru, Rowena Brown, was sickened by what she described as "an act of cowardly cruelty that is not uncommon in our community." As well as the attempt at cutting the dog's throat there was also a broken femur in the dog's hind leg. It was apparent that something had struck the limb with some force and the head of the bone had been broken completely off.
Her foster family in Waiouru however, cannot imagine what sort of person would leave a dog in the condition that 'Lucky' was found in.
Lucky's vet bill was in the region of $200, paid for by the Waiouru SPCA. In spite of some painful injuries, 'Lucky' is still good natured and brimming with energy.
