Contagious animal diseases

Owners of cats and dogs have a responsibility to their community and a commitment to their pets to see that animals are innoculated against 'snuffles' in cats and canine parvovirus in dogs. The first signs of snuffles (cat flu) are runny eyes and nose and constant sneezing. The infection is highly contagious and while it is around $20 to get a cat vaccinated, the alternative is death or a chronic respiratory problem for the few survivors. 'Parvo' is another contagious airbourne virus that attacks dogs' internal organs. Dogs that survive the virus are left with permanent heart conditions. Older dogs

suffer from severe vomiting and dysentery which in most cases ends in death. Both sickness are not uncommon. Last year, a large number of cases of Parvovirus were reported around the district.
