Letter to the Editor
Pipiriki Clean Up 1 am very much concerned about the story in your paper Tuesday 20th January 1987, headlined "Pipiriki Clean up - Criticised." lt is very hard to believe that a certain person would infer that Mr Cribb and his families were vandals, more so, 1 am thoroughly disgusted that a person who has only lived in Pipiriki for such a short time, can come to the conclusion that "Mr Cribb" and his family be stopped from reviving the beauty it once held. (Could there perhaps be a touch of jealousy hidden between the lines?) Mr Cribb was brought up from childhood to manhood in Pipiriki, worked on the boats that delivered goods to and from the Pipiriki hotel. He was part time gardner at the Hotel between jobs and was also
one oi the many to help cart the charred remains of the hotel away. Part of his livelihood had gone with the remains of the hotel. He was forced to move to Raetihi due to the employment difficulties. Since living in Raetihi he has become well known through his job with the Wanganui Rangitikei Power Board, as foreman for 17 years and has since retired. Through his job he has seen Pipiriki from candlelight to electricity. Heand hisfamily are now back at Pipiriki, not to destroy but to revive. 1 am sure Mr Cribb would enjoy sharing his experience with Mrs Lundy and anybody interested in reminiscing about the old Pipiriki Hotel and its natural beauty.
