Waimarino show jumpers clock up wins

Two Waimarino owned show jumping horses, 'Sundance' and 'Avalon', have recently been clocking up a number of wins out of the area. Sundance, owned by Rowie McGill of Ohakune, has been loaned to Shane Bosher of Taihape with whom he has had a limited season so far. Early in the season he had a good win and a third at Carterton A & P Show, followed closely by a 4th at Wanganui. Since November Shane has been extremely busy with the farm and Sundance. has had a let up which isjust as well as the ground has been extremely hard at the recent northern shows. He is now ready to go again and as a pipe opener for the major shows to come, he competed at two local sports meetings over Anniversary Weekend, having two wins on the Monday at Ohingaiti. His schedule over the next few weeks includes Taihape and Dannevirke A & P Shows and the Taihape Jumping Show. Raetihi's Avalon, owned and usually ridden by Pauline Mowat, is spending the season with Sue Thompson of Hawkes Bay. Last season with Pauline he had 6 wins in a row and while he hasn't yet repeated that with Sue he has had

some good results. In November at Palmerston North lndoor Show he had a win, a second and two thirds — a very creditable effort as he had not jumped indoors before. Later at Waipukurau Show he finished 3rd right in amongst the top horses in the country and in fact, ahead of Mr Kincaid, New Zealand's top Grand Prix horse. At the recent Wairoa A & P Show he had 2 wins which brings his total up to 9 wins in B grade and one more will take him to A grade. In February Avalon will

jump at the 3 day Dannevirke A & P and a likely win there would take him to A grade for the Taihape Jumping Show on February 14th/ 15th. At last year's show he represented the Taihape Area and helped them win the Pungatawa Shield, an annual competition for teams from all the official areas of the N.Z. Horse Society. With the Waimarino A & P Show and the Jumping Day following having been cancelled for this year anybody wanting to see these two top horses in action will need to travel to Taihape.
