Pipiriki redevelopment
Major redevelopment of the ranger station at Pipiriki is under way and is planned to be completed in time for the Governor General's visit next month. The redevelopment includes a spacious office complex that will accommodate personnel more efficiently than the present bach which serves as the ranger's office. The existing workshop complex is presently being extended and a storage room for the park's two jetboats is being built.
The final plans also include the installation of shower facilities and restroom amenities. The alterations are being undertaken by builders from Taumarunui. All timber supplies are transported down the windy unsealed Pipiriki Road. Staff and Park workers have contended with cramped, uncomfortable conditions for some time. Work on the complex started as soon as money became available for the iob.
