Whanganui park huts

Senior Ranger at Pipiriki John Lythgoe reported last week that there had been a good number of trampers in the Mangapurua Valley and Matemateaonga walkway areas taking advantage of the huts in those regions. Mr Lythgoe said all huts are being serviced by hut wardens whose duty it is to ensure the huts are kept clean and to assist trampers with information about their respective areas. A visitor to the region commented that the huts he and his family had stopped at, were "spotlessly clean".

but had expressed concern about some trampers' questionable hygiene habits. It is evident that in some areas of the bush campers have left overnight camps in an unclean state, often where others will pitch their tents the following night. Mr Lythgoe said he is concerned about this matter which need not happen if visitors use the hut facilities or exercise a little thought and consideration when making camp.
