END OF YEAR BOWLS TOURNAMENT

Lawn bowls enthusiasts from Manunui, Owhango, Taihape, Raetihi and Ohakune met recently in Ohakune to take part in an end-of-year mixed bowls tournament. The day's play started at 9.30am and continued virtually non-stop until about 5pm. Teams were drawn at random with the idea of mixing players from different areas for some friendly competition against members of their own clubs. Competition was very keen, and the victorious team at the end of the day was Ray Brown, Elaine Cornwall, Christina Kaiwhare and Bill Samson. The runners-up were V. O'Donnell, Wai Brown and Beryl Townsend. The position for third place was hotly Contested by five teams but

the combination of Les Burns, Sid Beer, Godfrey Harvey and Pam Watson was a winner. After a brief stop for afternoon tea and further play the winners were presented with their prizes which were fitting to the festive season, including boxes of biscuits and chocolates.
