BOWLS

The Ohakune Women's Bowling Club again retained the coveted Simonsen's Cup — the trophy presented to the winning team in an elimination series of bowls matches played between Ohakune and Wanganui district clubs. Ohakune have retained the Cup for the last four games and last week were pitted against the Nelson Street Women's Bowling Club. The 'local' team — C. Kaiwahre (lead), R. Kaiwhare (2), B. Hammond (3) and V. Brown (skip), played Wanganui challengers N. Sherlock (lead), V. Smith (2), P. Mayes (3) and W. Rintoul (lead). The game was played in a good spirit according to an official, with credit to visiting player Wyn Rintoul who was very sporting throughout the entire 21 ends. The final score at the end of the day was 22:12 to Ohakune. Their next challenge comes from Peat Park which will be the last match before Christmas.
