BRIDGE TOURNAMENT
About 70 Bridge enthusiasts met at the Ohakune Club last weekend to compete in the annual end-of-year play-off. Players travelled from as far south as Palmerston North and Wanganui and as far north as Cambridge, as well as from neighbouring clubs in Taihape. Turangi, Taumarunui and Taupo. Twenty players from the Waimarino competed in the tournament with one couple carrying off the "local's trophy."
Rita Kaiwhare and Betty Hammond won the Ohakune Bridge Club November trophy when they were placed third overall. First place went to Anne Scott and Barbara Hayes from Taumarunui, while M. Lindsay and R. Steel took second position. All those who took part were treated to a sumptuous evening meal provided by the Raetihi Plunket Society. A spokesman for the event said that the overall success of the competition was due to the excellent organisation.
