Lions' outing for elderly

A concerted effort by Ruapehu Lions and McLachlan's Passenger Service in Raetihi this year means that some elderly people in the Waimarino will have the opportunity of a half-day away for their Christmas shopping. Organiser of the excursion, Raetihi School Principal Geoff Lovegrove, liaised with the Lions who in turn approached senior citizens in the area for their response. A coach donated by Colin McLachlan will leave Rae-

tihi shortly after lunch for an afternoon of shopping in Taumarunui. The passengers will partake in afternoon tea in town and a refreshment stop on the way home. The whole trip will take an entire afternoon and proposes to return to Raetihi at about 5.30pm. The date is tentatively set for 17 December and the number of passengers will be limited only by the degree of interest from those eligible. From the response they received they ascertained that the majority were enthusiastic about the idea.
