Late delivery... another apology
Once again we have to apologise for the late delivery of the Bulletin last week ... yet another example of circumstances beyond our control and comprehension. With the clues contained in ourapology of a fortnight ago we offer no prizes for guessing what happened. But this time 'No. 1 in Freight' had a new trick up their sleeves ... and ittook 14 toll calls to find out what had happened! Instead of putting some related presscopy on Monday's over-
night train at Taumarunui so that our printers in Te Awamutu would receive it in time to print the Bulletin , they put it on a truck on Tuesday morning. The result was that the printer was unable to pick up the press-copy at 7am ... in fact it didn't arrive in Te Awamutu until some three hours later — at 1 0. 1 0am — by which time the paper is usually printed and ready to be put on the southbound Road Services bus leaving Te Awamutu at 1 1.00am. The next southbound bus left with the paper aboard at
3pm but terminated in Taumarunui at 6.10pm. Fortunately Bulletin staff were in Taumarunui that afternoon and were able to meet the bus, load the 3,500 papers into their vehicle and head for the Waimarino. Unfortunately we didn't get back to Ohakune until 7.30pm which meant that most readers didn't get their copies until the next day. We apologise to readers, advertisers and other delivery boys and girls as well as to our rural delivery agents. But we do try ...
