Cubs and Keas sleep over
The Ruapehu Cubs and Keas joined forces recently in a 'sleep-over' at the Cub Den in Lee Street, Ohakune. The 10 cubs and 1 1 keas (plus a few hangers-on) cooked their tea on 'Hobo Stoves' made up of two tins of differentsizes, corrugated cardboard and candle wax, which the boys constructed themselves. Adult supervisors and parent volunteers looked slightly apprehensive at the prospect of spending thc night with the 21 boisterous youngsters but from all accounts the time passed quietlyand without incident. They all had an early start the following morning when the group headed out to Waiouru at 9am to form up with Scouts for the start of their sponsored run from Waiouru to Ohakune — a distance of 27km. The money raised from the run is to go towards sending three Waimarino
scouts to a 10-day scout Jamboree in January of next year. Peter Fetzer, Robert and Dean Smith will be attending the National Scout Jamboree in Rangiora which will be the convention centre for scouts from around the South Pacific.
