Fijian clothing appeal succeeds beyond expectations
A private appeal launched to gather clothing for needy villages in the Fijian Islands has had an overwhelming response which was "completely unexpected," according to the apeal organiser. The organiser. who did not wish to be identified. has been innundated with a -hoard of haby and toddler clothing, children's and adult's clothing. for both summer and winter wear. The appeal was launched through Raetihi Primary School after a cry for help was received from a villager in a remote island. who wrote saying that lightweight clothing was scarce in her village. The local response has been so great that it has had to be temporarily put on hold because the problem is nowto find funds to send the clothing by post. Postage of a ten kilogram parcel is $I4. if sent by surface mail, which works out to be fairly costly over a period. It is hoped that the appeal may be run again early in the new year if funds can be raised for the postage. Enquiries as to how vou can help can be made by phoning 54-382 Raetihi.
