Disappointing basketball support
Only five people attended the Ruapehu Basketball Association 's annual general meeting recently after an equally disastrous turnout for an earlier meeting. Because of the obvious lack of interest shown by indoor basketball players where meetings are concerned, it was decided that unless each team is represented by at least one member at further meetings, the team will be wiped from the basketball draw. This is
the same system as is used by the netball association. The apathy shown by piayers has meant a general doterioration in the quality of ;>ames held regularly on Moi.day and Thursday nights at the Ruapehu College gymnasium. If players are not attending meetings it means that the teams thev represent are not fully aware of developments or alterations to the season's draw. When a lack of communication exists there is bound to be dissension in a group. Secretary of the Ruapehu Basketball Association, Anne Bates, was very disap-
pointed with the turnout for the meeting. "More people are going to have to take responsibility — it's the same ones attending meetings all the time," she said. "Virtually the only person holding the association together is Jeffrine O'Sullivan, to whom nothing is too much trouble." The next meeting is 19 November at the College, and it is hoped that enough publicity has been given to the association's situation for more than a handful of dedicated players to bother to turn up.
