Outstanding local garden filmed for American television programme
An overseas television film crew was here recently to film what must be the region's most outstanding garden. Titoki Point is the property of Gordon and Annette Collier near Bells Junction which is between Ngamatea and Rangiwaea and only 35 minutes drive from Ohakune. The film crew were in New Zealand to photograph the country's four most outstanding gardens for a weekly television programme to be screened in America during November
and December when northern hemisphere gardens are going into the seasonal decline with the approach of winter. The other three NZ gardens — selected from more than 20 throughout the country by series producer John Pelrine during a visit in September — are Pukeiti and Tupare, both at New Plymouth and the Botanic Gardens in Christchurch. Readers are reminded that this magnificent and remarkable garden — covering a hectare of hillside and resulting from a 30-year labour of love — is open to the public every Saturday until the end of January between 10am and 4pm at a charge of $3. Since the garden was opened last month there's been an excellent response according to Gordon and Annette Collier with visitors averaging about 50 each Saturday and a maximum so far of about 100.
