Turoa draws two lucky winners

There was an air of expectancy underlying the sizzle of sausages and the clink of glasses at the Turoa ticket draw on 5 November. A good crowd of this season's skiers gathered outside the Turoa ski hire building * in Ohakune toawait the two draws offering a host of fabulous prizes.

The season pass ticKet was drawn by the 'Mayor of Ohakune Junction', Mike Wiggins and won by Mocal'. Leon Hawea. The winner of the day pass tickets was drawn by Turoa Skifield manager, Tony Wright and won by P. J. Wright (no relation!) from North Whitby, Wellington. The prizes included a video recorder, ski-wear.

skis and poles, a 1987 Ski Academy pass and a season pass — a total value of about $3,000. The idea of a ticket draw came about after it became evident that a serious litter problem existed on the skifield, from people throwing away the backing of their day-pass tickets. The ticket draw encouraged people to keep their tickets rather than litter the skifield.
