Came for two years stayed for four

After four years at the Winstone Samsung Mill (now the Winstone Pulp Mill) manager Oke Nilsson is on his way home to Sweden. At his recent farewell dinner he recalled how he had been told that he'd only last three weeks on the job when he first started. Originally intending to stay for two-and-a-half years Oke

extended his contract to last for four years, four months and two days. "I've really enjoyed my time here" he says, "The country, the people, it's been hard work but very rewarding." Various workers at the mill paid tribute to Oke as a boss; his dedication, the fact that he was always a gentleman and one even felt that had it not been for Oke's management they would have all been picking carrots for a living by now.

Oke was given several New Zealand-style gifts to take back with him including a Woolrest sleeper and a kiwifruit toy. He was obviously well liked and respected by his staff. Once back in Sweden he will go into business as a consultant entrepeneur in the pulp and paper business. His replacement is Kit Wilson who has been groomed for the position for some time now.
