NZ WINES JUDGED

Of the 592 entries in the annual wine-tasting competition at the Chateau Tongariro last week, 37 were awarded gold medals. i 30 silver, 164 bronze while 261 wines received no award. The judges, who included two international wine tasters, awarded six gold

medals to the Sauvignon Blanc variety and five gold medals each to the Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer varieties of grape. Leading wineries for the gold medal placings were Montana and Villa Maria (5 each) and Cooks (4).
