Pat has seen a lot of changes
Pat Hansen, a longtime employee of the Ruapehu Hotel, has finally layed down her apron and retired after nearly 20 years of continuous service. She started work as a housemaid in Januarv 1967 but after six months had graduated to waitress. Pat has remained in the dining room since then save for a short time when she worked as a cleaner for the Hotel. She has seen a lot of changes while at the Hotel including the controversial end to 6 o'clock closing. When asked what she thought of today's extended pub hours Pat said: "The only problem now is getting them to leave come closing time. Some people really spin out that last jug of beer." Pat has seen eight changes of proprietors over the last 20 years and was farewelled by current managers Ray and Iris Parr. During her time with the Hotel a lot of changes have been made to the building. There has been the construction of six motel units, the addition of a guest
lounge and major alterations to the dining room in past years. "The last 20 years have flown but it's been a lot of fun," said Pat. She has lived in Raetihi all her life; she and her husband Martin have raised 10 children and now have 23 grand-children. She has a daughter living in Australia and is considering a trip over there but not
in the near future she said. Pat is keen to get into her garden now she has more time on her hands. Plans are already being made to make alterations to the family home. Pat was very involved with fund-raising for Raetihi's new skating rink which was completed last year. She was both secretary and treasurer for the skating-rink committee.
