Bride contest
Organisers of the Waimarino Bride of the 80's competition are pleased with the number of entrants received and by the large number of sponsors supporting the event. The list of prizes is impressive and well worth winning. First prize includes a helicopter flight for two over Mt Ruapehu donated by Wanganui Aero Works, a dress outfit of shoes, accessories and a shirt and skirt donated by Ohakune Shoes, Ragtime and Factory Fashions, and dinner for two donated by Jocelyn Lilburn. Second prize is a visit to Ohakune colour consultant Carol Wilson, a clothing voucher from Little's Clothing, and a jewellery box from Ohakune Photo Pharmacy. Third prize is a hair voucher from Images in Raetihi, a matching hat and scarf from Ohakune's Sheepskin Shop, a voucher from Robin's Nest in Raetihi, and a pair of flannelette sheets donated by Bennetts Furnishers of Raetihi. The competition is to be held in the Ruapehu College Hall on 3 November, starting at 7.30pm. During the event there will be raffles of linen donated by Farmers Trading Company and a Christmas cake baked by Wyn McCarthy and iced by Adrian Maru. Alpine Flowers in Ohakune are donating the flowers to decorate the hall, and also the.posiesand bouquets for the brides and their attendants. Judges for the evening are Elizabeth Penning, Carol Wilson, Gwen Doble, Jim Goldfinch and Godfrey Harvey. Contestants for the contest are Dale Pullen, Frances Wharry, Donna Moore, Janice Berry, Debbie Alabaster, Catherine Craig, Shirley McGahan, Adrian Lilburn, Diane McCarthy, Natalie McDougall, Leigh Berry, Erin Marnoch, Rhonda Gordon, Lois Penning, Tracey Ennis, Donna Watchman and Julie Berridge.
