Tongariro programme volunteers

A large number of applications have been received for volunteers to help with this year's Tongariro National Park summer holiday programme. Tongariro National Park ranger Paul Dale said that 28 applications have been approved which is a bonus on the park's original plan for 15. The volunteers will assist qualified guides and manage some of the tours and discussions. Seventeen of the volunteers- have been taken on for the full three weeks period of the programme, and there

are around 10 locals assisting as park personnel. Many of the volunteers are university students and some are coming from as far as Otago and Auckland.

The volunteers are provided with accommodation and meals. but are otherwise not reimbursed for their efforts.
