Bulletin editor departs

The Waimarino Bulletin farewelled editor Chris Ryan last week after more than a year in the job. Chris, his wife Heather McCallum, and their two-year-old son Sam are on their way to the Wairarapa and will be living in a cottage on Heather's parent's farm near Masterton. They plan to eventually move back to Wellington. Chris has been offered the opportunity to work parttime for the Historic Places Trust in Wellington, and will travel down two days a week. He is also negotiating for other freelance contract journalism work. He is keen to pursue some more creative writing in his spare time. Heather hopes to work part-time in Masterton, but has her options open at present. Both are keen to work for part of the week and to share the responsibility for looking after Sam during the rest of the time. Chris has held the position of editor for the last 13 months and said that he is sorry to leave the area. "Heather and I are both going to miss the great outdoors atmosphere of Ohakune, and especially the wonderful view of the mountain," he said. "In my time as editor I have met a lot of interesting people and it has been a unique experience working on a community newspaper." Good luck from all of us, Chris!
