Bowlers hold coaching day
The Ohakune women's bowling club were fortunate to have the opportunity to listen to four experienced umpires from Wanganui last Thursday. The four women were all from the Wanganui women's umpire association and were in Ohakune for the day. T welve Ohakune members were present for the discussion and practice session that fojlowed. The visiting ladies were Wanganui women's umpire association president Norma Moodie, vice president Betty Thomas, Mrs Elva McFarland, and veteran umpire of 25 years Rhoda Murphy. They instructed local players on laws and associated regulations of the game and gave demonstrations on the correct techniques of laying of the mat, deliveries and foot faulting. stance and the different forms of measuring bowls. The Ohakune members were very appreciative of the discussion and kept the umpires busy by asking numerous questions. The talk was a good grounding for beginners to the sport and even some of the long-standing members found points of interest. The bowling club provided lunch and afternoon tca. and all those involved commented that it had been a pleasant and informative afternoon.
