During Aug ust the owner personally notifies all landholdersin the Forest Area and margin thatthese requirements apply for a further year, and advertises accordingly. 4. Fire spread or escape of engine sparks, etc, into the area or margin are offences. 5. Rural Fire Mediators settle any disputes. 6. Forest area registration is renewable every five years. FOREST AND RURAL FIRES ACT 1977 Notice to Landholders in THE WAIMARINO FORESTS AREA AND FIRE SAFETY MARGIN Waimarino Forests Limited, a wholy-owned subsidiary of Winstone Afforestation Limited has recently advertised a Seasonal Notice of Forest Area Restrictions. This notice has the effect that the Forest Area known as Waimarino Forests, and its Fire Safety Margin is specified as a restricted fire season for 12 months from August 31, 1986. PERMITS REQUIRED TO LIGHT FIRES IN OPEN AIR: Every person commitsan offenceagainstthe Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 whosetsonfire, orassiststo set on fire, orcauses to be set on fire, or aids, abets and assists in setting on fire in the open air any vegetation or any other combustible material whatsoever except pursuant to an authority or permit from a Fire officer for the Forest area. Persons wishing to light fires in the open air within the Waimarino Forest Area, and its fire safety margin, can obtain a permit from: Winstone Afforestation Ltd, Queen Street, Raetihi. Phone 54-111. RESPONSIBILITIES: Winstone Afforestation Limited has the authority for the Forest Area and fire safety margin, is responsible for: Fire protection (subject to any directions by the Waimarino County): and for the administration of the Forest and Rural Fires Act as it pertains to the Forest Area and the fire safety margin. The Company does not take those responsibilities lightly and intends to enforce the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 where necessary to prevent unlawf ul fire lighting and damage to the assets of the Company and of landholders within the Forest Area and safety margin. We expect the co-operation of landholders and the public living-in, working-in or travelling through the district in carrying out the responsibilities. UNAUTHORISED ENTRY: The Forest and Rural Fire Regulations 1979 deem it an offence for any person to knowingly and wilfully enteror remain in any exotic forest without a written permit or, being a permit holder fails to observe the conditions in the permit. The Company hereby gives warning that it will take all necessary steps to enforce this provision of the Regulations. ASSISTANCE: Winstone Afforestation personnel are available to advise affected landholders on their land clearing activities and in the planning of burning operations.
