Skifields weekend

Weather conditions on the mountain were variable over the weekend, with both Whakapapa and Turoa Skifields affected by high winds on Sunday. At Turoa. over 4000 people enjoyed a good Saturday morning after long waits at the ticket office. Visability decreased on the High Noon and Jumbo T Bar levels in the afternoon and continued to deteriorate on Sunday. Only the hardiest skiers ventured onto the slopes on Sunday. with 25 knot winds. Conditions were similar at Whakapapa. Rain fell on Sunday night. which meant tht neither the alpine or platter lifts were operating on Monday. due to a lack of snow along the lift lines. Snow making on the number one platter is due to start as soon as weather conditions become more favourable.
