A 29-year old unemI ployed Raetihi man appeared in The Wanganui District Court last week after an incident involving a firearm last Tuesday. Members of the public reported hearing shots fired from a rifle last Tuesday evening, in the vicinity of the Ruapehu Hotel, in Seddon j Street, Raetihi. The armed offenders squad was called in from Wanganui and later apprehended the man at a Duncan Street address at around | 1.30am the following morning. The man was charged with discharging a firearm in a public place, posessing a firearm without a licence and posession of an offensive weapon. ★ ★ ★ Raetihi Police arrested two Raetihi men on a charge of assault, following an incident in Raetihi the previous week. The men will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 26 September. ★ ★ ★

A similar incident occurred the same night, when two vehicles parked in Thames Street, Ohakune were broken into and property stolen. ★ ★ ★ Ohakune and Raetihi Police were kept busy last week with a large number of car accidents. Police were called out to a three car collision in Clyde Street, Ohakune, on Saturday night. None of the occupants of the vehicles Were injured. ★ ★ ★ Another incident involving three Commodores occurred at the intersection of Clyde Street and Miro Street on Wednesday morning. The occupants of the vehicles were shaken, but otherwise unharmed. Extensive damage resulted to the vehicles. ★ ★ ★ Three Vehicles were involved in a collision at the intersection of State Highway 4 and State H igh way 49 at Raetihi at 8pm on Friday night. The accident occurred when a southbound vehicie on State Highway 4 struck the side of another car turning right at the intersection. The vehicie then hit the back of a parked car. There were no injuries. * * * On Friday morning at around 8.30am, Raetihi Police were called to an accident involving a car and a truck on State highway 4, the Parapara Highway. A car travelling south struck the side of a truck while on a tight bend. The truck was not damaged but the car was extensively damaged. ★ ★ ★ A motor accident occurred at the intersection of Arawa Street and Shannon Street in Ohakune over the weekend, when a car left the road and came to rest in a paddock. The driver of the vehicie was uninjured. ★ ★ ★ Raetihi Police are interested in hearing from anyone knowing of the persons involved in throwing a rock through the window of the Raetihi Borough Council library in Seddon Street.
