Neighbourhood watch meeting
Around 20 people attended the second neighbourhood watch support meeting held at the Anglican Church hall in Seddon Street, Raetihi, recently to discuss the possibility of setting up such a group in the Waimarino. Convenor for the meeting, Greg Ellis, was encouraged that the turnout was more than at the first meeting two weeks ago. The meetings were arranged by the Lions Club to promote awareness of secur-
ity and crime prevention in the community. Mr Ellis said that areas that had support groups operating in them showed conclusive evidence that they did deter crime and gave people a feeling of security. Quite a few people showed interest in setting up support groups in their streets, but there is still a shortage of area coordinators for both Ohakune and Raetihi. It is hoped that more people will come forward to assist with the scheme.
